We are seeking a flexible, organised and sociable General & Domestic Assistant to to join our small friendly team of paid and volunteer staff in Darsham Country Centre. You'll join us on a part-time permanent basis, working 10 hours per week, and, in return, you will receive a competitive salary of GBP20,285 per annum pro rata (GBP11.15 per hour).
About the role
Darsham Country Centre supports schools and youth groups to experience everything the Suffolk countryside has to offer. As our General & Domestic Assistant, you will undertake a range of practical and operational duties to maintain the centre s internal and external environment to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety. You will work collaboratively with the Centre Manager to deliver a professional, inclusive and responsive service, ensuring customer service excellence and that everything is in place to support children and groups to have an enjoyable stay
The Centre is in need of a flexible Domestic and General Assistant to help prepare the centre for visiting groups. Duties will include:
- Cleaning
- Laundry
- Maintenance
- Securing the building
- Reporting any site issues

As ourGeneral & Domestic Assistant your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking housekeeping duties including cleaning of internal areas
- Completing all laundry requirements at the Centre
- Ensuring that centre cleaning equipment is used appropriately and any maintenance or faults are reported to the Centre Manager
- Checking that the centre First Aid kit is fully stocked after each group stay
- Ensuring the centre has, at all times, appropriate cleaning materials and supplies paying due regard for the Health and Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations
- Undertaking regular and deep cleaning of the centre according to agreed schedules, including cleaning of the external patio as necessary
- Working, on occasions when the Centre Manager is unavailable, with centre users and group leaders to advise them of the proper use of the centre and the observance of centre policies and rules, particularly those relating to centre safety, cleanliness and hygiene
- Reporting any improper use or breaches of centre policies to the Centre Manager
- Unlocking and securing buildings, as appropriate, ensuring the security of buildings at all times
- Assisting with stock control and maintenance of cleaning equipment and products and to seek to identify and report any faults promptly
- Assisting with waste management, recycling, and removal to our designated bins
- Undertaking other general duties as may be required from time to time appropriate to the level of responsibility for the post
What we are looking for in our General & Domestic Assistant:
Physical mobility to enable the undertaking of activity involving lifting and carrying, bending and stretching and using stairs
Experience of cleaning, preferably in a similar environment
An ability to work safely including at times on your own and to continually review actions to ensure reduced risk to themselves and others
Experience of working towards excellent service standards e.g. best practice in Health & Safety or quality standards
Commitment to safeguarding children and young people
Good literacy and numeracy skills
Willingness and ability to work in response to guest needs, including some weekend and evening shifts
Experience of working in a professional/customer focussed environment
