General Driver/Grounds Maintenance Worker

We have a fantastic opportunity for Two General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Workers for Rochdale Council. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 2 - 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Rochdale Council are looking for Two General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Workers to carry out general gardening/ ground’s maintenance duties, including grass cutting using pedestrian, handheld and ride-on machines.

What are your responsibilities?

• Candidate must be physically fit, enthusiastic, Reliable, and willing to learn about all aspects of horticulture.
• Strimming, Hedge trimming, shrub maintenance, edging off on the councils’ green spaces.  Weed removal, general street cleansing.
• Operatives will also be expected to Litter pick areas where required and empty litter bins if necessary.
• Candidates must be able to work on their own or as part of a team.
• They must also be willing to work in any part of the borough.
• Candidates must also be willing to work overtime as part of the service needs and requirements. This will be on an ad-hoc basis.
• Knowledge of full health and safety using all types of Gardening equipment

What skills do you Need?

• Must have previous General Driver / Grounds Maintenance Worker experience.
• Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking service users, and other members of staff including managers.
• Ideally previous knowledge of using ride on lawnmowers.
• Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be required to lift heavy items as well as working outdoors.
• Full Clean UK Driving Licence
• It would also be desirable to have a qualification in Horticulture NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent, and / or have experience working in a Grounds maintenance environment, again this is not essential.
• Desirable to have a Pesticides application Certificate PA1 & PA6
