Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a generic Support Worker (GSW) to work in the newly created colorectal prehabilitation team. This will be a part time role for a period of 18 months, and can be offered as a fixed term contract or a secondment. This GSW role will involve working closely with the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy surgical teams, and as part of a wider MDT including Dietitians, nursing staff and Surgical teams.
To assist the therapy team (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) in the assessment and treatment of patients and the day-to-day running of the service.
To accept patients referred by the therapists and carry own patient caseload. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, make alterations (within protocols and scope of practice) to patient treatment programmes as required.
Work unsupervised regularly, reporting back patient progress and informing therapist(s) of any problems. Lone working is an element of this post.
For a defined and delegated group of patients - to undertake the assessment of patients, using investigative and analytical skills. To use clinical reasoning, and utilise a range of assessment and treatment skills and options to formulate treatment programmes within the scope of practise of this post.
The GSW role is an emerging role and will be reviewed regularly in terms of the 2 AHP specialities the role covers and may be adapted depending on feedback from the post holders and team members.
