Job description

Do you have great IT and analytical skills? Interested in a role aiming to improve lives? Looking for your next challenge?

We are recruiting a statistical geneticist in Rare Diseases Genomics who can lead statistical genetics analyses for Rare Diseases, including epigenetics. The postholder ideally will already have experience in statistical genetics, rare or complex disorder genetics and show a keen interest in Translational Research. The post will work closely with the rare disease NIHR BioResource lead and contributing PIs.

About NIHR BioResource:

Our mission is to facilitate human health research and its transformation into medical practice.

NIHR BioResource is a unique and powerful resource for studying disease mechanisms and for investigating the links between genes, the environment, health and disease, enabling scientific discoveries as well as facilitating translational medicine for the benefit of patients.

About the job:

This is an exciting position that will play a vital role in leading rare disease genetics research in one of the UK's largest long read sequencing projects, using samples and data from the NIHR BioResource.

Optimally, this will include genome wide association studies, and/or exome or whole genome sequencing analyses. Alternatively, you will have experience in large scale biomarker informatics.

The role will require good skills in statistical analysis, machine learning, preferably in R and/or python, and LINUX/bash. You will be able to work independently, to maintain excellent relationships with our collaborators. High quality written communication and presentation skills are essential.

About you:

Ideally you will have:

  • Statistical genetics and/or Bioinformatics skills
  • Good all-round IT and database skills and familiarity with LINUX/UNIX environments
  • Ability to take initiative and generate results
  • Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
