Role Overview:
As a GIS Analyst specialized in FME, you will be responsible for data transformation between various GIS formats, both spatial and non-spatial, as well as handling metadata. You will utilize FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) software to create workbenches, troubleshoot data-related issues, design and implement batch processes, and use Python and VB scripts for automation and customization. Additionally, you will be involved in creating interactive dashboards to visualize and present data insights effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Transformation: Perform data transformation tasks using FME to convert, integrate, and transfer data between different GIS formats, ensuring data compatibility and integrity.
- Spatial and Non-Spatial Data Handling: Process spatial datasets such as shapefiles, geodatabases, and raster data, along with non-spatial data sources like spreadsheets, databases, and CSV files.
- Metadata Management: Manage metadata associated with GIS datasets, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
- Workbench Creation: Develop and maintain FME workbenches (workflows) to automate data processing tasks and ensure reproducibility.
- Dashboard Creation: Utilize GIS tools and FME outputs to design and build interactive dashboards, facilitating data visualization and analysis for end-users.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve data-related issues encountered during data transformation processes, ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Batch Processing: Implement batch processes using FME to handle large-scale data conversions efficiently and effectively.
- Scripting: Utilize Python and VB scripts to enhance automation, customize workflows, and address unique data transformation requirements.
- Data Validation: Conduct data validation and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of transformed data.
- Collaboration: Work closely with GIS teams, data analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide effective solutions.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for workflows, processes, and troubleshooting procedures to facilitate knowledge transfer and maintain standard practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in using FME software for data transformation and integration tasks.
- Solid understanding of GIS concepts, spatial data formats, and coordinate systems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and VBScript.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot data issues and optimize workflows.
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with database management systems and data modeling.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for data accuracy.
