What you will be doing
We are looking for a GiS Specialist to join our growing team, to support the design, build and operation of our brand new FTTP network. This is the perfect opportunity for a graduate to kick-start their career in our expanding industry, or for a seasoned GiS professional to join an award-winning team with a fantastic culture. Key Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, analyse and present spatial data to support a number of projects and workstreams across the Connexin business
- Discover, map and manage a digital library of geographic maps
- Play a vital role in the rollout of a best-in-class FTTP network – working with key data sets to display distributional maps
- Provide design schematics of fibre path and splicing work to be performed for fibre projects
- Interact with Design & Build functions to data capture the requirements of HLD & LLD and as-built
- Update and maintain fibre inventory in IQGEO as per the as-built received
- Provide GIS expertise and support to other projects and workstreams as needed
- Produce reports utilising data visualisation, and present and explain your findings to help support decision making
- Work closely with colleagues from the Software, Systems and Data team, and the Infrastructure and Engineering department, to deliver integrations and project work in an efficient and timely manner
- Identify opportunities to improve our GIS solution and lead on the delivery of changes
- Comply with Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System
- Liaise with external Build and Planning Partners and internal stakeholders
Essential skills and experience
The successful candidate will ideally have a computer science degree or equivalent, and at least 2 year’s experience of using a GIS tool such as ArcGIS, Confirm, QGIS or IQGeo. However, applications are welcomed from graduates with less experience, or experienced GIS specialists without a degree.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and other standard IT packages
- Ability to continually learn new concepts & skills; using the best solutions to solve problems for the business
- Ability to work independently on projects and manage your own workload based on business priorities
- A skilled communicator able to interact with people at any level within internal or external organisations and the ability to quickly built rapport
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and time management skills

Desirable skills, competencies and experience
- General knowledge of networks; Civils, FTTP and PIA
- Experience using a range of the ESRI ArcGIS OSmaps Products across desktop, server/web and mobile devices. (AWS, QGIS and IQGEO)
- Knowledge of fibre as-built, planning or network infrastructures
- Previous experience as a Subject Matter Expert and/or Administrator of a GIS platform
- Previous experience of working with Development or Data Analysis tools
- Experience of creating automations through code or scripts
Essential Qualifications
3 A Levels or equivalent, including at least 1 science
Desirable Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent in GIS or a related subject
