Job description

Global OGC Data Lawyer
The role...
With the recent explosive surge in technological innovation, AI-driven capabilities advancing at an astonishing rate, insights ever more critical to informing business strategies, and a new era of digital and data-related regulation upon us, data is at the heart of everything .
As a Data Lawyer in PwC's Global Office of the General Counsel you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the ethical and responsible use of data across our global network. The demands of the traditional data protection lawyer have evolved: the successful candidate can expect to address challenges ranging from applying data privacy laws in new contexts like GenAI, to reconciling data transfer restrictions and professional secrecy obligations with the need to share data across a global organisation, to understanding and adapting to heightened cyber resilience and security requirements.
You'll collaborate with numerous stakeholders across the various network functions and PwC member firms to provide timely and strategic legal advice, develop policies, and manage complex legal matters related to cutting-edge projects and technologies leveraging data - all to help achieve our mission of building trust in society and solving important problems.
What will I be doing?
  • Identifying and analysing complex legal, regulatory, and business issues related to data privacy/protection, technology, and information security
  • Providing strategic legal advice and guidance on a wide range of data related matters, including transformation projects, intellectual property, commercial transactions, and technology outsourcing
  • Developing and implementing policies and guidance regarding data projects, confidentiality, security, and other data related provisions in client contracts, services agreements, and vendor agreements
  • Drafting complex cross territory data transfer agreements and data protection agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Assisting in responding to data breaches, including regulatory notifications and legal assessments of liability and risk mitigation strategies, while adhering to ISO27001 and other information security certifications and reporting regimes
  • Advising on the data protection implications of emerging technologies, such as mobile applications, cloud computing, AI/machine learning, and IT platforms
  • Negotiating contractual provisions related to data protection and security, balancing legal requirements with business objectives
  • Managing multiple cases, matters, or projects simultaneously, coordinating internal and external resources as needed
  • Facilitating consensus building among stakeholders, especially when advocating for legal or regulatory compliance measures that may be challenging or unpopular

What are we looking for?
  • Practising solicitor in England and Wales (or European equivalent)
  • IAPP industry certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT desirable
  • Detailed understanding of EU and UK data laws, particularly the GDPR, and experience with laws and regulations governing cyber and information security, including familiarity with ISO27001 and other information security certifications and reporting frameworks
  • A global mindset and solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects or teams effectively, prioritising tasks, and meeting deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to building consensus and fostering positive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Creative problem solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast paced, dynamic work environment, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity
