This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Information Governance professional to lead on the Museum's compliance and governance of information in both strategic and practical terms.
They will be an expert in the area, able to draw on their professional experience to give authoritative advice to colleagues around the Museum. They will establish technical and service standards for the Museum's Information Governance and will ensure that these are met. As part of this, they will be responsible for the Museum's compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Public Records Act and other related legislation.
The post holder will continue a review of the Museum's current approach to information governance, and will work on the design and implementation of a long-term strategy and framework for managing information within the institution, taking into account its wider structure as a charity and non-departmental public body. This will include developing and delivering organisation-wide policies, processes, standards and guidelines for information, ensuring effective management, accountability, compliance and assurance for all aspects. These will be communicated across the organisation, with accompanying training and materials, and reviewed, assessed and improved on an ongoing basis.
As part of this work, the Head of Information Governance will work closely with colleagues in IS on systems and mechanisms for achieving delivery, and with Collections on the assessment, processing, preservation and retention of information in the Archive. They will also liaise closely with Information Compliance to assess and mitigate risk and implement findings at a strategic level as needed.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, and Public Records Act
- Fostering and leading an appropriate organisational information culture
- Oversight of information governance activities, policy and prioritisation.
- Documentation and application of information risk management frameworks
- Developing and delivering training
- Working closely with Information Compliance
About you:
- Degree or equivalent.
- Detailed knowledge of the relevant regulatory frameworks and their application.
- Experience in the design, application and delivery of information governance frameworks.
- Experienced in organisation-wide review and project management.
- Strong compliance assurance skills.
- Able to: carry a varied and unpredictable workload and to work to tight deadlines; assess risks efficiently and to clearly and concisely provide advice; understand the operational ramifications of advice and find practical solutions; apply knowledge/skills through handling complex problems.
- Professional manner, objectivity, and commercial negotiation skills.
- Experience of managing others, supervising and implementing processes.
- Ability to: listen and adapt; support others in complex decision making; communicate complex matters in a clear, straightforward way.
