Salary: £93,666.00 - £126,281.00  per annum, pro rata

The Role


These are part time, 8 hours per week, one year posts (with the possibility of a second year if funding available) with a primary focus on developing and delivering teaching to medical students with a broader remit of supporting GP teaching across the curriculum. Teaching Fellows will also be involved in other aspects of medical education such as selection and recruitment, examining and undertaking educational research projects.


As this will be a developmental post, you will be expected to complete the Newcastle University Certificate (or higher) in Medical Education. There will be financial support towards course fees and other development needs. 
These posts are aimed at primary care doctors who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in the field of Medical Education.  It is expected that candidates will also be working clinically as locum, salaried or partner GPs.

Key Accountabilities

 

The appointees will join the primary care team of GP Lecturers, teaching Fellows and GP trainees at the School of Medicine, led by Professor Hugh Alberti (Sub-dean for Primary and Community Care) and will be supervised by one of the senior GP team.
There are three posts available each with a different emphasis:
a)    GP Teaching Fellow (year three): focusing on delivering, coordinating and developing materials for the year 3 online tutorials that were implemented for the first time this academic year,
b)    GP teaching fellow (sustainable/public health): focusing on mapping SHC and PH across the curriculum and developing teaching materials/initiatives,
c)    GP teaching fellow (innovative placement models): focusing on implementing and delivering an innovative GP placement model with Northumbria Primary Care.
Specific tasks will include:

•    To manage own teaching, scholarly and administrative activities
•    To teach as a member of the team
•    Carrying out teaching within a clear and established programme
•    Developing own teaching materials
•    Contributing to decisions affecting the work of the primary care team

Qualifications 

Essential
•    Medical degree
•    Current registration with the GMC and licence to practise
•    MRCGP (or about to complete prior to the post commencing)

•    Educational qualification
