The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Graduate Materials Scientist / Technologist, you will play a pivotal role within Fusion Materials Interfaces (FMI). You will undertake materials science within this Materials Division as part of UKAEA's fusion research programme - either alone or in a team, often as part of collaborations with universities, industrial partners and/or overseas research organisations. To understand the scope of work, interacting with other project members where relevant, perform experimentation and/or modelling, and report and present the results internally, but also through conferences and peer reviewed publications. Some project management and funding application activities are part of the role.
UKAEA's two-year Graduate Scheme is split by 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications and 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development. Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in UKAEA's research programs on materials for fusion. Organise, support and coordinate short- and long-term projects, arranging specimen/data procurement, scope of work, funding and resources for sample preparation, testing, modelling.
- Deliver high quality, novel research or engineering in the field of nuclear materials through own endeavour and creative input.
- Compile and present results within technical reports, at scientific conferences and through publication of high-quality research articles.
- Work with external collaborators (including universities, public sector research establishments and industry in fusion and related fields) in order to complement UKAEA's internal capability.
- Contribute to the development and positive reinforcement of UKAEA's knowledge base, design rules and practices in the area of materials & nuclear physics research and development.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree from a UK university in a relevant subject such as materials science or similar.
You will need to be self motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm to achieving your full potential.
