Job Title: Graduate Systems Test and Development Engineer
Job Overview:
A Graduate Systems Test Engineer is required to take a key role in the product development of our Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESA) SatCom on the move antenna systems. Providing system development and integration testing with a strong focus on test automation. The role provides opportunities to develop technical expertise in the Test and Development of SatCom antenna systems. Our phased array product is a sophisticated interplay of assemblies, including patch antennas, RF chain, digital hardware and C firmware.
The ideal candidate will feel comfortable using test automation to develop and test complex phased array products efficiently. Collaboration with other engineering teams will be important. The small and dynamic nature of the engineering team allows for this role to span multiple aspects of the product development lifecycle, providing excellent development opportunities in a fast paced, agile, environment.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Develop python software for test automation in a professional manner.
- Optimization of test procedure speed and algorithm complexity in order to improve efficiency of testing.
- Perform RF testing and Antenna functional tests of hardware sub-assemblies and full antenna systems.
- Design, Test and improve mathematical algorithms for antenna system operation.
- Contribute to the improvement of Antenna test facilities, design test methods and quality.
- Characterise and analyse the antenna system performance in Antenna test ranges.
- Support the wider technical deliverables required for product development, such as documentation (test procedures, reports, etc)
Organisational Responsibilities:
- Write and maintain up to date test procedures and reports.
- Take responsibility for own projects and delivery to tight timescales, communicating through plans, presentations and written reports.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills.
- Maintain a record of the all the lab test equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to deliver on-time and build good working relationships with cross-functional teams.
- The role will require travel to external test sites as required. Expenses will be paid.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential:
- Python experience --- Knowledge of basic data structures, automated test scripts, data processing and plotting. Ability to use debugging tools to step through code errors. Ability to parse and understand various libraries of object orientated code.
- A professional approach to software (Version Control, Branches, Readability etc)
- Educated to HND level in a relevant subject area such as Electronics/Electrical Engineering or be able to demonstrate equivalent and relevant experience.
- Capable of reading and understanding design specifications, test requirements and schematics with a good attention to detail and ability to follow concise processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and capable of producing high quality test plans, procedures and reports.
- Motivated by teamwork.
- Possess the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.
- Shows initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision.
- Good problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to adapt to fast moving environments.
Desirable:
- Good hands-on experience in the operation and use of test equipment such as, RF signal generators, spectrum analysers, signal analyser, oscilloscopes and vector network analysers.
- Undergraduate Engineering degree (BEng/MEng).
- Experience in a relevant development environment with a history of hands-on testing of PCB and electronic sub-assemblies using test automation tools.
- Antenna measurement: Anechoic chamber knowledge and experience.
- Coding experience in other languages such as MATLAB or C.
- Understanding of common interface standards: Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB, SPI, I2C, RS-232.
