Job description

We are seeking a Graduate Test Engineer to work for a leading manufacturer of scientific equipment based in Milton Keynes.

This position is open to recent STEM graduates seeking an interesting and varied role withing a laboratory testing environment, full training will be provided. Relevant degree subjects include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Material Engineering, Maths, or similar.

Job role

• Laboratory based work: Running scientific instruments, interpreting data and writing reports for customer contracts. Testing requires physical setup of samples (attaching thermocouples, wires).

• International travel for installations, service and customer training (after 6-12 months on the job).

• Provision of customer support via phone, email or online meetings.

• Some sales activities such as preparing quotations, purchase orders etc.

• Facilitate day-to-day lab operations.

• Development of presentations and applications notes.

• Technical or service support tasks as required.

Essential Requirements

• Good degree in a STEMS discipline and supporting educational qualifications,

• Proven mathematical and numerical skills, for data handling and analysis,

• Self-starter, hardworking and disciplined - you must be able to work alone as required.

• Excellent personal and communication skills,

• Good understanding of Excel, and other standard MS programs as a minimum,

• An inquisitive mind and keen to put a practical approach to work,

• Ability to work under pressure, happy to roll up sleeves and get a job done and find solutions to problems through critical thinking,

• Driver’s licence, keen to travel when required.

Useful Abilities

• Lab work experience: ideally battery-based but chemical work is also useful.

• Background/experience in Lithium-ion batteries/electrochemistry,

• Background/experience in chemical process safety,

• Knowledge of advanced data handling e.g. MATLAB, Python,

• Knowledge of electronics; useful for understanding how our instruments work,

• Some experience in customer facing roles is helpful.

• Project management experience.

• Language skills.

• Qualities, experience and abilities to impress us.
