A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
We have an exciting opportunity within our Senior Leadership Team for a Group Director of Nursing and AHP’s, within the Women’s and Children’s Group. The successful candidate will have responsibility for Children’s, Neonates and Women’s Health Services and will also support the Children’s and Neonatal agenda both internally and externally to the Trust and contribute towards the ‘voice of the child’.
This role will provide credible and visible leadership both within UHCW, as a key member of the Corporate Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Leadership Team and with key partners across the System and Networks. The successful candidate will ensure high quality, safety and patient experience while also delivering corporate objectives. This role is vital in supporting the Trust to deliver its vision to become a national and international leader in healthcare.
The post holder must be an innovative, inclusive leader with exceptional communication stills to inspire confidence in others, role model leadership and promote the development and maintenance of high standards of care that is family centred, sensitive and responsive to service users.
To meet the essential criteria, you will need to be a current Children’s Registered Nurse with substantial Senior Nursing experience (dual registration is desirable but not essential). This role involves participation in the Senior Manager on call rota, this includes weekend working as required.
As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi.
You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.
Within this context, the Group Director of Nursing and AHPs will lead on quality, safety and patient experience across the Group, while also delivering corporate objectives that reflect the Chief Nursing Officer portfolio. The Group Director of Nursing and AHPs may be required to lead on corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility in order to achieve the corporate objectives of the Trust.

• Proactively and positively contribute to the successful overall performance of the Trust.

• To be an ambassador for the nursing/AHP profession within and external to the trust and to uphold NMC/HCPC standards.
• To take a lead in the management of specific nursing/AHP functions across the Trust’s group structure as agreed with the Chief Nursing Officer, Group Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations.
• To assist the Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring there is a balance between management of Nursing and AHP’s within a devolved group structure, and a consistency of quality and maintenance of professional standards.
• Make an active contribution to all major activities that take place within the Trust for corporate decision-making.
• Become proficient in UHCWi methodology, commissioning and leading quality improvement and instilling a discipline of daily management and standard work.
• Advocate and develop a culture of research, innovation and improvement for both professional and clinical care benefit
• Participate in the senior manager on-call rota, to include weekend working, as required.
Main Duties:
• Together with the Clinical Director, ensure that local objectives are aligned to the trust organisational strategy and quality strategy.
• Provide professional leadership across the team and line manage staff as delegated.
• Lead the implementation of the UHCW strategic nursing, midwifery and AHP objectives at team level and taking organisational leadership, as appropriate.
• Provide expert advice on Nursing /AHP matters within the team reflecting professional and regulatory standards.
• Lead quality governance and assurance processes as needed in the context of integrated services to include risk management, SIs, complaints and other outcome measures.
• Ensure all relevant actions from SIs are communicated and processes for improvement and learning are systematically implemented.
• Together with the Clinical Director, identify any issues of regulatory compliance e.g. CQC and ensure remedial / robust action plans.
• Maintain oversight of effective discharge services across the organisation and wider system, identifying and leading opportunities for improvement.
• Design and co-ordinate quarterly MADE and ensure learning and actions are in place after each event.
• Establish a schedule for ‘confirm and challenge’ of ‘Long Length of Stay’ (LLOS) patients with relevant quality metrics to track improvement.
• Identify opportunities for innovation, learning and development, using UHCWi methods and embed through role modelling (for example), rounding and production boards.
• Responsible for coordinating research and development through the Nursing & Midwifery Allied Health Professionals as relevant.
• Seek opportunities to address health inequalities through robust EQIAs
• Analyse and interpret highly complex data to inform practice and assist in the determination of policy and professional/ practice development.
• Dissemination of knowledge through engagement in report writing, and reviewing, taking full responsibility for technical accuracy and reliability and being sensitive to the wider implications for dissemination.
• Undertake proactive horizon scanning for either developments relating to Trust or system work or opportunities for Trust involvement around wider health issues.
