Job description

Our client is market leader in their field, providing specialised services to the oil and gas industry. With an international footprint and a successful growth story, this business presents an attractive opportunity for a Group Financial Controller to join their team in a newly created position. Having been acquired last year, the business has new investment which will offer the successful candidate fantastic experience and challenge as well as a flexible, friendly working environment.

This will be a key senior position, taking a lead role in the Group Financial close process, ensuring consistency and timeliness of financial and management reporting. Interaction with regional finance teams will be required to review management information and ensure finance objectives and achieved. The role will also develop corporate compliance, ensuring that all statutory reporting requirements are achieved throughout the group.

Main Responsibilities:

Corporate Reporting:

  • Responsible for Group Financial close process, ensuring consistency and timeliness of management reporting. Lead role in coordination of quarterly reporting (FC Package) to parent company
  • Ownership and development of the Management Accounts reporting pack, issued to internal management and external stakeholders. Identify areas for improvement in provision of management information and timeliness of reporting (includes actuals reporting, forecast reporting and variance analysis)
  • Support with implementation of upgraded ERP systems across sites and entities, and guidance for finance tasks associated with creation of new legal entities. Superuser for other financial reporting tools used for management reporting
  • Maintain and develop accounting policies in respect of financial reporting, and wider finance activities, to ensure consistency of process and accuracy of reporting across regions
  • Coordinate Management Reviews for each region; aiming to undertake detailed analysis of regional profitability and document outcomes in the form of suggestions/recommendations for improvement
  • Controllership responsibilities for group overhead departments and maintenance of allocation/charge rules for regional allocations
  • Lead role in coordination of the yearly financial audit including review of lead schedules, consolidation files and various disclosure reporting requirements
  • Support with the annual business planning model; coordinating regional submissions for inclusion into the group model, performing various analysis and scenario planning activities, and assisting with preparation of associated presentations

Corporate Compliance:

  • Work closely with Finance Director to develop/maintain the Internal Controls framework
  • Lead internal audits of regional finance teams to monitor compliance with group policies and procedures; report and identify areas for improvement
  • Quarterly review of regional balance sheet accounts; standard setter in terms of reconciliation process and documentation requirements

Tax and Transfer Pricing:

  • Work with internal and external advisors to ensure appropriate records are kept within the group to support transfer pricing basis used for intercompany transactions. Maintain the master transfer pricing file in conjunction with group tax advisors
  • Monitor tax compliance activities within the group, coordinating with each region to schedule and document tax reporting obligations/positions. Liaise with tax advisors where appropriate to arrange research engagements on new territories

Cashflow Forecasting and Treasury:

  • Coordinate preparation of consolidated cash flow forecast for the group – review and explain movements and variances to prior submission and base plan
  • Supporting Finance Director in maintenance of banking relationships (internal financing units and external partners)

To be considered for this role you will be a Qualified Accountant with experience in a financial management position. Ideally you will have exposure to the oil and gas sector and have good ERP skills. Candidates from Audit in practice will also be considered if they have worked with clients who are oil and gas service companies. You will be a strong all rounder who has excellent communication and leadership skills. A can do attitude is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team.
