A quick look at the role

The Group Sustainability Manager will have a central influence on how Biffa delivers its mission to change how society thinks about waste and to recognise its value in a transition to a circular economy.  As the lead on group and customer level sustainability reporting and developing key targets you will use this deep understanding of the data to support the formulation of strategies to meet sustainability goals.  You will also be central in analysing and assessing potential solutions and provide expert advice to operating divisions and customers.  This role will also be core to the evolution of how we measure our impact on nature through our biodiversity programmes and how we develop our social value reporting.

Your core responsibilities

  • Evolve, promote and support delivery of Group sustainability strategy.
  • Collate, interpret and present the sustainability data for the Group.
  • Develop and produce enhanced carbon foot printing analysis for Group and key customers, along with lifecycle analysis of waste collection, processing and disposal techniques.
  • Research and implement environmental and sustainability innovations to provide the business with a commercial advantage and reduce or minimise its environmental impact.
  • Respond to and engage with national and local policy and regulatory consultations and initiatives relating to sustainability or carbon reporting.  This will include liaison with external bodies such as Logistics UK, ESA, Biffa Award,
  • Provide training and assistance to the wider business in relation to current and emerging environmental and sustainability issues in order to shape policy and develop services which meet current and future compliance. Inspire lead and engage staff at all levels of seniority in all areas of the Biffa business on sustainability and environmental issues.
  • Work with Marketing and comms team to support external comms activities relating to sustainability.
  • Provide general provision of professional advice and support across the business in relation to policy and sustainability.

Our essential requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in environmental or relevant scientific or sustainability subject
  • Highly proficient in all Microsoft Applications including advanced Excel
  • Proven ability to analyse large volumes of data to produce accurate and succinct reports.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in an Environmental or Sustainability role
  • Good Project Management skills
