Job summary

The Government Security Function (GSF) oversees the delivery of protective security across Government. Our Mission is to enable Government to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and managing security risks. We set the strategy and standards for Government Security, monitor departmental security performance, manage pan-government security incidents, support the delivery of key security capabilities and lead the Government Security Profession.

The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Function, based within the Cabinet Office. GSG is transforming the Government’s approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age. Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral support to the business unit’s financial management. It also is an opportunity for future development and progression should the candidate be interested. It presents a good introduction to both the business and supporting them in their activities through processing both accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions across multi-faceted funding and spending profiles. You will provide advice and support to the organisation on all aspects of cost centre transactions.

This will involve but not be limited to;
  • Management of day-to-day transactional management.
  • Responsibility for the accuracy of the data inputs and outputs.
  • Hands on production and maintenance of the finance spreadsheets.
  • Maintaining accurate records of approvals in line with Delegations of Authority.
  • Proactive management of ledger transactions, monitoring PO and Invoice status.
  • Presenting key information that will have significant impact on the programme budget.
  • Maintaining outstanding balances for Call-Off agreements.
  • Leading the relationship with SSCL to ensure timely and accurate financial processing.
  • Raising requests for Purchase Orders (POs) and chasing progress until suppliers have POs.
  • Ensuring invoices are received before approving payment.
  • Other activities as required to ensure financial information is accurately maintained.

Key areas of responsibility

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Responsible for end to end Purchase to Pay (P2P) management
  • Responsible for overseeing progress on any P2P/transactional issues and solutions.
  • Support the collation, completeness and credibility of audit evidence around this process.
  • Production of aged debt analysis and acting on any debt above threshold.
  • Contribution to monthly GSG financial management information process and report.
  • Support on GSG Finance continuous improvement.

Person specification

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience as a Finance administrator/Ledger clerk.
  • Experience with running Purchase to Pay (PTP) and debtor ledger management.
  • Strong communicator and able to communicate/influence at all levels.
  • Experience of use of Google sheets or Microsoft Excel in a fast paced programme/team environment.
  • Possess natural organisational skills with a high level of audit ability.
  • Demonstrate excellent record keeping skills.
  • Ability to develop an intra-Government finance community network of contacts.

Additional information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
