Job description

Summary of the role  To ensure the efficient, safe, and effective provision of high-quality gym instruction to students. To deliver a range of high-quality services to students within Higher Education with an emphasis on assessing students’ physical health needs to relevant colleagues and external services and agencies Key Responsibilities To provide a gym service daily during term times (approx. 33 weeks per year) To ensure the efficient, safe, and effective provision of high-quality gym instruction To support student fitness programmes in relation to their specific training To liaise with Dance tutors to ensure cohesion of training To liaise with the resident Physio to enhance student rehabilitation To ensure the service structure matches the requirements of both the Degree, the National Qualification, and the professional accrediting bodies To carry out a termly inventory of all gym equipment To complete visual documented daily checks of all equipment before use by students To complete a robust, documented check of all fitness equipment weekly including free weights, benches, and any stand-alone accessories To ensure that all Gym use always conforms to H&S legislation, and to work with the Head of Facilities as and when required in relation to carrying out Risk Assessments and introducing control measures to keep the environment safe for use. To provide informal assessments on physical and mental health needs of students presenting themselves and to offer high quality advice and support whilst making suitable internal and external referrals according to individual needs To collaborate with the completion of departmental reports, and other administrative tasks in line with set procedures To report on all matters related to the role and to undertake any other duties, commensurate with the post To work with the senior management team and to be involved in assessment and evaluation of student health and wellbeing/disability provision and delivery to review and improve the effectiveness of the support offered To establish effective working relationships with schools, academic departments, services, and other relevant teams to ensure effective support for students To assist in delivering the health promotion and wellbeing strategy at ArtsEd and to implement health promotion and wellbeing interventions, campaigns, and workshops on a wide range of health issues  Secondary Duties To monitor and assess the physical health of students To manage, appraise and record the progress of student’s fitness levels To work with the Head of Student Support and Engagement to formulate and review plans for the delivery of the gym curriculum in advance of the academic year To carry out physical and documented induction with all new students for each piece of equipment To undertake such reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time by the Head of Student Support and Engagement and other senior colleagues
