About the Role

We are recruiting a highly motivated and ambitious Lecturer to join our Science Department. This is a great opportunity for someone with a science education background with skills in teaching biology and chemistry.  We are keen to speak to anyone interested in progressing within their career and who can work with us to grow our provision in line with the needs of the West Yorkshire economic region. 

Higher Education is a significant aspect of Leeds City College's mission. The College is a national provider of education, skills, training, and employability opportunities and has developed extensive provision that is not provided elsewhere through more traditional HEIs.

Over 1300 students are currently studying a range of courses with us at University Centre Leeds. The curriculum offered is vocationally focused and diverse in nature. The institution holds Foundation Degree Awarding Powers and partnered with the Open University for Level 6 provision.

Our STEM department’s curriculum portfolio comprises a range of Foundation degrees and Top Ups within Games, Computing and Science, Masters provision within Science and HNC/D’s in Engineering alongside a number of apprenticeships.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding of science curriculum to learners.
  • Be responsible for recording student progress, motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression.
  • Reflect on what works best in teaching and learning to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Adapt curriculum delivery methods to maximise their effectiveness, including through the use of technology.
  • Plan, prepare and develop effective schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning resources including the development of online learning resources for identified modules.
  • Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.
  • Develop and employ effective assessment activities for identified modules.
  • Assess student work, provide constructive and timely feedback to motivate and inspire the learner to improve and record learners’ progress for identified modules.

About You

  • You will hold an Honours Degree in a Science subject.
  • You will have the relevant knowledge and skills to deliver biology and chemistry sessions to HE learners.  
  • Relevant experience in teaching students in HE.
  • Experience within the science industry sector.
  • Experience of positively managing student progression, advice and guidance in Higher Education setting.
  • Proven commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Experience developing creative learning materials for groups of learners.
