Lead Practitioner of English

  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Location: Luton area
  • Salary Range: £30,000 - £40,000

We are inviting applications for the role of Lead Practitioner of English at a dynamic secondary school in the Luton area. This is a permanent position starting in September 2024, ideal for an individual looking to advance their career and lead the development of the English department.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative teaching strategies and resources.
  • Participate in school events and extracurricular activities to enrich the student experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience teaching English at the secondary level.
  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for English literature and language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of National Curriculum requirements for English.
  • Ability to teach up to and including GCSE level.
  • Knowledge of systems for monitoring student progress.
  • A learner-centred philosophy, recognising individual value, potential, aspirations, and needs.
  • An ability to encourage, inspire, and motivate learners while demonstrating high standards and expectations.
  • A passion for the subject and for teaching and learning.
  • Collaborative and supportive team working skills.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and accuracy.
  • Flexibility and a positive response to change.
  • Strong commitment to student welfare, achievement, and support.
  • Knowledge of social inclusion issues.
