Head of Credit Risk – Development Finance

Our client operates with great success in the bridging, commercial term and development finance markets, offering a range of loan sizes from £250k - £15m.
This is a key appointment for the lender at an extremely busy time, driven by increased investment and impressive new funding lines. It is also a brand-new senior role created within the existing Credit Risk framework with a view to focussing on larger and more complex transactions, whether this be from new applications identified by the business development function, or for product refinancing or new loan enquiries from existing borrowers already a part of the lenders large and growing loan book.
Your core focus will be on higher risk cases and you will also work with the companies MLRO to ensure both credit and financial crime risk is managed to the highest order. You will form a key part of the credit committee.
You will also play a key role in developing Credit Risk policies and procedures as the business grows with new funding lines and products. You will be supported by an excellent team that includes experienced Underwriters, Case Managers and Loans Administrators.
Confidence in dealing with internal stakeholders is key for the ideal individual for this senior Credit Risk position.
Duties will include (though may not be limited to):
- Managing Credit Risk decisions for new and existing borrowers
- Influencing credit and risk committee decisions
- Developing Credit Risk policies, principles and procedures
- Working with compliance team on financial crime risk
- Root cause analysis and loss event recording
- Preparing Credit Risk strategy papers
- Onboarding new funding lines and products
Preferred Experience & Traits
- Prior experience of Credit Risk/Underwriting within Development property/CRE finance is essential.
- A proven track record of assessing and making recommendations on complex property loans is key.
- Experience in creating, developing or enhancing Credit Risk policies & procedures would be sought after.
- Working within a wholesale lending environment would be preferred, though not critical
- An excellent attention to detail is paramount.
Due to this the ideal individual will have an excellent knowledge of Credit Risk principles and must be comfortable working within a fast paced and dynamic environment. The ideal individual will also be able to take a commercial view on loan applications, utilising key financial and asset-based data to take important decisions on sanctioning viability.
