Job description

THIS ROLE IS INTERNALLY RESTRICTED

To apply for this job, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be an employee of Kirklees Council.
  • Be employed by Kirklees for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date.
  • Have successfully completed your probationary period.

(Please note that if you work for an Academy, you are not an employee of the Council.)

Your employment status will be checked, if you do not meet the above requirements your application will be rejected.

We’re looking for a Head of Culture and Tourism to take forward our ambitious cultural agenda through cultural, heritage and visitor economy strategies.

You’ll lead services that will help us deliver a place-based approach, recognising the diversity of our places and communities, which through culture, heritage, markets, leisure centres and visitor attractions increase the vibrancy of the district.

Your success will help raise the profile of Kirklees on a regional, national and international stage.

Key to your success will be building residents’ engagement with culture in all its forms.

Working in partnership, developing, creating and managing relationships at all levels across the sector is at the heart of the job.

An established, proven leader, you’ll have a passion for culture, leisure, tourism and Kirklees and will be ambitious for our place and your services.

Experienced in the cultural or leisure (or related) sectors and with an understanding of the challenges, nuances and opportunities within them, you’ll list relationship management amongst your many leadership skills and will relish the opportunity to work in partnership.

Also, you will be experienced working with and supporting elected members to achieve the council’s outcomes.

Skilled in financial management, you’ll know how to spot and seize opportunities for investment and funding and be comfortable transforming your services to have a much more commercial approach.

Our behaviours and values are your way of working and you expect the same of your services.

Shortlisting will take place on Tuesday 26th March 2024.

Interviews will take place on Friday 5th April 2024.
