Head of Department - Structural Technologies
  • Salary Range: £43,948 - £46,987

  • Job Type: Full-time

Reed FE are seeking a Head of Department to lead curriculum development and innovation, promote best practices in teaching, learning, and skills development, and foster staff development. This role is crucial in enhancing student retention and achievement and requires a dynamic leader with a passion for educational excellence.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Lead and manage the curriculum team, ensuring effective leadership and fostering a culture of high expectations.
  • Delegate leadership responsibilities equitably and oversee the implementation of individualised learning schemes.
  • Participate in staff appointments, inductions, performance evaluations, and address staff conduct and discipline issues.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to manage resources, monitor expenditure, and maintain effective communication with other departments.
  • Implement and apply the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Framework to enhance learner outcomes.
  • Establish procedures and resources to maintain high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Identify at-risk students and implement targeted support strategies.
  • Review and enhance teaching, learning, assessment, and learner outcomes following the Quality Cycle.
  • Develop curriculum links with stakeholders to align with community needs and ensure relevance and benefit to the community.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment, and be responsible for safeguarding student welfare.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent with a recognised teaching qualification.
  • Successful recent experience in course management with evidence of high student retention and achievement.
  • Experience in managing quality improvement and operating disciplinary procedures with students.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and manage resources effectively.
  • Knowledge of curriculum issues and developments within Further Education, particularly for the 14-19 age group.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to initiate and develop strategies to improve performance and outcomes for learners.
  • Competence in using digital technology and Information Learning Technology to support teaching and learning.
