The role
As a Head of Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Discipline ou'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The difference our new Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Discipline Lead will make is to lead and manage the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Discipline defining its top-level strategy (resource / capability) and providing effective direction and guidance as the main contact point for all Discipline Managers and the figure head for all within the Discipline. To maintain a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources aligned to business requirements to deliver the mission and integrated technical programme.
Day to day, you'll define the strategy of the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Discipline, while managing resources in a safe, secure, and cost-efficient manner, and ensuring consistency with the Engineering strategy, as well as:
  • Manage the availability of competent resources to meet agreed Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering discipline technical programme deliverables, into the Lines of Business.
  • Provide guidance to the Head of Engineering, Disciplines, and Lines of Business on resource and process issues.
  • Apply appropriate governance to comply with all requirements upon the business regarding regulatory and legislative matters.
  • Ensure that Discipline performance metrics, procedures, processes, and Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation are developed, implemented and of a quality that delivers against our Lines of Business requirements.

This role is a hybrid role with 2 days per week onsite at Bristol.
Essential experience of the Head of Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Discipline:
  • Significant experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary technical teams and programmes both within the Discipline and across Disciplines.
  • Leading transformation and change.
  • Proven track record of driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates financial awareness, management of budgets, and improvements.
  • Management of engineering / technical programmes, projects, and activities.
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • A strong track record of technical leadership in complex organisations, in the leadership of staff development and deployment in a matrix organisation and in technical delivery as an engineering leader.
  • A proactive, action focussed individual able to successfully lead teams to deliver outcomes on both short term, urgent activities and longer term, important activities at the same time.

Qualifications for the Head of Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Engineering Discipline:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve BPSS security clearance for this role.
