Job description

We are a recruiting on behalf of a leading company in the furniture industry, seeking a highly skilled Head of Design Engineering to join their dynamic team. With a rich history dating back to 1975, they have evolved into a global entity, maintaining their commitment to quality and innovation. Headquartered in Kent (UK), they operate globally and have offices in France, Germany, and the USA.

In this role, your duties will include:

  • Lead, coach, and motivate the Design Engineering team.
  • Spearhead sustaining engineering activities for existing product ranges.
  • Drive cost efficiency projects, optimizing supply chain and materials.
  • Oversee product improvement projects and troubleshoot after-sales issues.
  • Distribute workload and manage priorities within the team.
  • Report weekly workload updates to direct managers and Directors.
  • Address sales and customer queries promptly.
  • Ensure accurate work costings by maintaining daily work timing logs.
  • Report and address team issues with the Head of Department.
  • Support refinement of product manufacturing drawings.
  • Assist New Product Development (NPD) with improvement and manufacturing drawings.
  • Contribute ideas for team and product efficiency improvements.
  • Manage and guide the Drawing team, ensuring performance goals are met.
  • Assist the team and the broader department/business with other tasks as needed.

To be considered for this role, you will need the following:

  • Proven leadership experience in resolving team issues, prioritizing work, and workload allocation.
  • Ability to delegate work effectively to address daily queries.
  • Proficient in technical, manufacturing, and space planning.
  • Expertise in CAD packages - Autodesk Inventor (essential) & Solidworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
