Job description

We are currently seeking a highly organised individual with proven event management experience to lead our Front of House team.

This role will take the lead on the requirements for the operational delivery of performances, events and event management. As Head of Front of House you will work closely with the Operations Director to ensure the delivery of an exceptional audience experience. You will play a pivotal role in the recruitment and training of seasonal Usher and Front of House staff roles.

The primary purpose of the role is to oversee all Front of House operations, drive performance, and cultivate a positive working environment conducive to delivering an exceptional experience.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in the day to day planning, recruitment and operations to ensure delivery of an exceptional audience experience across our Festival and Autumn Seasons.
  • To duty manage 3 performances per week during our Festival and Autumn season and support other ad hoc events throughout the year. There may be the requirement to manage additional performances when necessary.
  • Ensure that audiences receive exceptional service by implementing and maintaining service standards, addressing customer feedback, and resolving any issues or complaints promptly and effectively.
  • To lead, develop and implement training programmes to support new and returning staff and continuously enhance the skills and knowledge of existing team members in customer excellence.
  • To own and devise efficient systems, detailed timeline plans for delivery including managing staff rotas to ensure required coverage, to introduce an app based scheduling tool to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • To identify and respond to all aspects of event risk assessment and crisis management planning strategies.
  • To conduct post–event analysis and debriefing sessions and make any necessary recommendations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

ESSENTIAL

  • Must have proven event management experience in a fast paced, demanding environment, organising and delivering large scale and complex events.
  • Highly organised and motivated with an ability to work independently.
  • Confident, with the ability to influence decision–making and build excellent rapport with audiences and colleagues.
  • Proven experience of proactively identifying challenges before they become problems and reactively solving issues that arise during an event.
  • Exceptional attention to detail during the planning and delivery of events.
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills coupled with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Must have previous budgetary responsibility and ability to deliver to the agreed budget.
  • Strong decision maker with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, to accommodate the demands of the business.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working in a live theatre environment.

Salary and Benefits

We can offer a salary of up to GBP45,000 per annum dependent on experience.

The contractual hours of work are 35 per week but will involve unsociable hours including evenings and weekends during the Glyndebourne Festival, Autumn programme and at other times of the year.

We offer 6.6 weeks (33 days) holiday inclusive of bank holidays per annum. We also give additional non–contractual closure dates at Christmas.
