Jackson Hogg are proud to be exclusively supporting a specialist construction business in the Newcastle area with a Head of HSE position, covering the UK projects. 

This position reports into Exec level members, with regular communication to the company board and Managing Director. 

Head of HSE Responsibilities 

  • Successfully manage the HSE function and lead the team, ensuring the organisation complies with current Health and Safety legislation and approved codes of practice and guidance to support the safety first culture.
  • Provide advice to Board, Managers and employees and conduct site visits, audits and assessments
  • Support the Board to implement a safety first culture
  • Provide insightful statistics to continually improve our approach to Health, Safety and the Environment
  • Directing validation activities
  • Deliver a HS&E strategy that is safety first and supported by statistics and benchmarking
  • Work proactively with stakeholders to build effective and successful relationships that foster trust, engagement and increased awareness of responsibility of HSE.
  • Establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working across the organisation underpinned by policies and procedures
  • Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental policies are being implemented correctly
  • To ensure the effective performance of all activities against the HSE requirements of project, and both internal and customer requirements
  • Support Design and Project Teams to achieve best in class HSE through buildability solutions
  • Provide accurate project and company reporting aligned to company requirements
  • Lead and develop the HSE team to deliver to a high standard

Head of HSE - Experience Required 

  • Construction related background working for principle contractors.
  • Hold a recognised NEBOSH qualification
  • CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Strong interest in and understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements and issues in a construction and manufacturing environment
  • A strong communicator with all levels in the business and high attention to detail
  • Organised and calm under pressure
  • Able to work in a confidential manner
  • Approachable, friendly, professional and a team player, you will be self-motivated, determined and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • You must be a driven and motivated individual who is eager to learn.
  • Extensive experience of leading accident and incident investigations and producing reports
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Internal HS&E audit experience
  • Ability to lead and work with stakeholders on various levels
  • This role involves travel across the UK so candidates must be willing to work away from home on a weekly basis
  • Valid UK drivers licence
