As the Head of Legal and Democratic Services and Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will have a role to place in supporting the Council, colleagues and the wider community in achieving this vision. Reporting into the Head of People & Governance, and deputising for the Council’s Statutory Officer, you will be at the heart of this vibrant vision offering valuable insights and looking to the future of the service. About the role
As the Head of Legal and Democratic Services (Deputy Monitoring Officer), you will have the opportunity to develop, co-ordinate, implement and review the annual Operational Plan, ensuring they incorporate the Council’s risk management procedures. You’ll also hold responsibility for the operational area’s budgets and your role will encompass the management and professional development of operational area colleagues, putting you at the forefront of this exciting chapter in the Council’s history. You’ll work to ensure that there are alternative methods of service delivery, external funding and partnership working; ensuring the council operates with best practice at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
 
This position encompasses the provision of Legal advice and services to the council, including representing the council in major cases and public inquiries. You have the opportunity to lead and manage the civic, information governance, elections and land charges functions. You will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and effective operation, supporting the council as we look to maintain pride and stability within the Council, local businesses and Ipswich as a whole.
