Job description

A full-time, permanent vacancy has arisen for the role of Head of Operational Risk. The successful candidate will be developing, managing and embedding the risk management framework & culture within VHI Group. Ensuring the non-financial risks of the Group are appropriately managed. Support the business (as 2nd line) in meeting the regulatory requirements of a High Impact company.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for; the design of the Risk Management Framework (RMF), embedding the RMF in the business and ensuring the Risk Management Team operations effectively support the business and Board.
  • Drive, and implement best practice risk management practice and culture within VHI organisation by developing and implementing the Risk Management Framework.
  • Maintain organisations risk policies, risk plan, risk monitoring schedule, risk controls and risk register.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) relevant to business units.
  • Ensure effective oversight, governance and monitoring of significant business changes including outsourcing arrangements for business units within VHI organization.
  • Ensure effective oversight of risk event reporting including incidents and near misses.
  • Provide training to risk co-ordinators and risk owners within business units to embed risk culture, awareness and ownership of risk deliverables.
  • Prepare reports for risk committees, board and senior management on risk to support the operation of the Risk Framework and enable decision making to be properly informed by risk information.
  • Complete ongoing risk monitoring, testing, incident reporting and support in remediation of risk challenges and issues.
  • Ensure risk management framework and function meets regulatory and CBI requirements on risk management
  • Ensure risk management framework is embedded in the business (1st line)
  • Research and network within and outside VHI organisation to keep up to date with trends and changes in risk and regulation and facilitate implementation of best practice risk management practices, tools and techniques to VHI.
  • Support and manage ad-hoc projects, reporting and internal reviews on behalf of the Risk Function as required.
  • Work with other second and third line of defence functions in order to achieve a co-ordinated approach in our assurance / monitoring activities over the first line.

The successful candidate must have:
  • 7+ years' experience in risk management role with a clear understanding or risk in a complex
  • Degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance, Maths, other.
  • Design and development of internal training and workshops
  • Effective management of relationships across organisation to develop positive risk culture and profile
  • Proactive around change and innovation of risk and business processes
  • Solution focused, analytical thinker with ability to manage multiple tasks and deliverables within tight time frames
  • Flexible and proactive with ability to influence and drive changes within the VHI organisation.
  • Business and report writing skills for internal and external use.
  • Performance and development of direct reports through ongoing feedback conversations and reviews.
  • Accountability and ownership, proactive around own, people and team development and engagement.
  • Customer review and focus with strong influencing and assertiveness skills to obtain best risk outcomes for VHI organisation.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the Vhi Values
