Job description

FARMEYE is a leading Irish AgTech company that provides a Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) platform for natural capital. Our company enables the digitisation of sustainable soil and land management leading to improved performance for farmers and for the environment. FARMEYE recently embarked on a large R&D project to develop ground survey and earth observation technologies to monitor the natural capital for the purpose of improving biodiversity, water management and carbon sequestration. Our customers include major agri-corporates, government agencies, land managers and farmers.

The position

We are now looking for an experienced Head of R&D, with a proven background, to lead, and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the FARMEYE research and development team.Reporting to the CEO, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations within FARMEYE. You will design, organise, manage and deliver key FARMEYE research projects, while ensuring that various company and R&D targets are achieved.You will also coordinate all R&D communications internally with FARMEYE management and with research funding agencies and other stakeholders.

Main Duties

  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team in the development and leadership of the FARMEYE R&D Strategy.
  • Day-to-day management of projects, ensuring that activities are on track on a weekly basis - using PMO industry standards.
  • Clearly communicate project status and deadlines and ensure they are met.
  • Preparation of project reports for the board and leadership team.
  • Manage relevant documentation and files.
  • Develop and deliver meeting agendas, progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations for team members and management as required.
  • Oversee all planning, reporting (agenda, minutes, notes, reports, deliverables), monitoring of budget and compliance, coordinating contractual procedures and amendments, communication with consortium partners on all other procedural, administrative, legal and financial aspects.
  • Manage the research team and evaluate and improve efficiencies and research processes as required.
  • Together with the Innovation Director, develop the research funding strategy for the department.
  • Determine R&D staffing requirements and manage the hiring process as well as team-building, training and support.
  • Identify and resolve any constraints, issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Foster a great working environment that is collaborative, inclusive, supportive and enjoyable.
  • Represent FARMEYE at relevant national and international conferences and events with key stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with the latest research within the relevant technology sectors.

What we are looking for

  • Experience of designing and managing research projects, specifically with a proven track record of successfully delivering multiple laboratory, biological or engineering projects.
  • Experience with academic writing, proposal writing, peer-reviewing papers and report writing.
  • Postgraduate research qualification (PhD preferably) in a relevant discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to relay important information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Detail oriented, with excellentinterpersonal skills.
  • Must be a team player, with an approachable, supportive and motivational management style.
