In order to continue to keep our people safe and look after them, we are seeking a qualified Health and Safety Manager to Lead and advise North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Police Fire & Rescue and the Office of North Yorkshire Police Fire & Crime Commissioner in all Health and Safety matters.
To succeed in this role you will have a NEBOSH diploma (or with an equivalent level of experience), with strong professional knowledge. You will be able demonstrate experience of managing and developing a Health & Safety Team to deliver high quality, customer orientated services to meet required SLAs and KPIs and be comfortable with analysing data to identify trends and challenges and develop pragmatic solutions which mitigate risk.
You’ll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrable ability to deliver effective solutions to enact organisational change and to define and implement organisation-wide best practice Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and develop the Health & Safety service providing timely and credible advice and solutions on all Health & Safety management matters, as well as ensuring that audits and investigations are undertaken as required.
- You will ensure delivery of service in accordance with agreed standards and ensure measurement, delivery and reporting of KPIs and SLAs as well as taking action to develop and deliver ongoing procedure and service improvements.
- Ensure the development, maintenance and management of relevant frameworks, procedures and policies ensuring appropriate consultation and statutory and legal compliance.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of current and impending legislation and case law, assessing and addressing any impact on policies and procedures.
- Responsible for (supporting) the negotiation, development and agreement of service level agreements and key performance indicators with key stakeholders and colleagues as appropriate.
- Promote the service catalogue, associated tools, SLA’s and KPI’s, ensuring they are clearly understood by service users and colleagues.
- Ensure the provision of insight and analysis on key issues and trends to assist in targeting support.
- Identify and deliver education and development to line management to improve their ownership of and capability to manage Health and Safety matters.
- Support the establishment of protocols for the escalation of complex and potentially high-risk cases to ensure managers receive the best possible advice and guidance, minimising risk to the business.
- Lead or oversee research or project work on key issues or specific initiatives as required.
- Represent People Services at relevant meetings or working groups as required including at regional or national level.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, unions and staff associations
Your leadership of the Health and Safety Team will ensure delivery of key projects and activities to ensure that the delivery of People Services is both regulatory and legally compliant. You will drive a positive and inclusive team culture, to ensure interdependencies across all People Services are aligned and exemplify ‘one people service’ offering to service users.
