We are looking to recruit a Health Physics Technician to join the Operational Health Physics team at Rolls-Royce Submarines. You will work as part of a shift team, supporting the Submarines’ Core Production business unit by maintaining a radiological protection service, providing specialised monitoring support, and offering operational Health Physics advice.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
You will perform radiation and contamination surveys
- Undertake workplace monitoring for radiological hazards (radiation, and surface and airborne contamination), and keep accurate records of monitoring undertaken.
- Carry out radiological monitoring equipment calibrations and daily checks prior to use.
- Support environmental permitting compliance activities such as liquid and gaseous effluent analysis, and waste monitoring.

- You are expected to use computers for office work such as emailing, documenting activities, trending results, and submitting safety observations.
- Motivated and flexible.
- You need to be able to use your own initiative and judgement (within the scope of the role), identify and implement improvements in working procedures, and respond to the ever-changing operational environment.
- Practical experience in radiation and contamination monitoring is essential.
- A formal qualification such as the NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection OR City and Guilds Radiation Safety Practice Stage 1 is desirable.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
