Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for two proactive and motivated individuals to be our new band 4 Health care Support Workers for children and families living with Obesity. We have a full time and a part time post available. These roles will support the Multi-disciplinary team, children and families at level 2 and level 3 of the All Wales Weight Management pathway. You will be involved in shaping and developing educational opportunities and group delivery with support from the Lead Dietitian and the MDT. Creativity in resource development are amongst some of the skills required for this post as well as a compassionate approach to health care.
Experience of working with children in a clinical or public health capacity is essential for this post.
You will work within a friendly and highly skilled department and have numerous opportunities for professional and personal development. You will be involved in the evaluation of this service and the Quality and Safety agenda of the department and UHB.

To provide highly skilled specialised support under the direction of a Senior Dietitian, supporting children and families in the Paediatric Weight Management Service. The post-holder will develop, organise, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate education training packages for families in community locations and home settings, under the guidance of the team Dietitian and other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team as appropriate. The post-holder will have delegated responsibility within an agreed framework with a degree of autonomy.

The post-holder will have delegated responsibility within an agreed framework with a degree of autonomy. The post-holder will be responsible and accountable for these tasks. The post holder will also support the wider MDT as appropriate. Under the direction of a Senior dietitian, the post-holder is a trained member of staff who will be required to work in an unsupervised capacity. They will be responsible for the development and organisation of nutrition training to Children and Families within an agreed framework. In addition, the post-holder will provide an access route for Children and Young People to engage in Nutrition Skills training, already delivered by the Public Health Community Dietetic Service, such as Nutrition skills for life.
The post holder will:
To plan and prioritise own workload on a day-to-day basis under the direction of the supervising Dietitian.
To assist Dietitians in their role by undertaking specific tasks as directed by the supervising Dietitian working within the BDA Professional Code of Conduct for Dietetic Assistants.
To be able to communicate appropriately and effectively at all levels with the client/client group and all those involved in the programme
To assist and deliver community based nutrition interventions for parents, carers/staff/other agencies, under the direction of appropriate senior qualified staff.
To work safely and appropriately in an unsupervised capacity as part of the Paediatric Weight Management team
To work with clients and colleagues from diverse cultural and ethnic groups, and
Respect personal beliefs and identity of individuals
Promote individual rights and choice
Promote anti-discriminatory practice
To be involved in planning, reviewing and progression of community based nutrition programmes in line with recognised set guidelines.
To be involved in activities provided by the Paediatric Weight Management team that lead to uptake of healthy choices and a healthier balanced diet
To motivate, guide and encourage parents/carers/children and young people to participate in activities and monitor their progress during the programme and reporting findings to the relevant qualified staff member.
To contribute to the maintenance of adequate notes on client group or activity progress, with guidance from qualified staff.
To send relevant information to client groups as directed by the qualified staff
To be competent in the use of practical food resources, with sufficient cookery skills
To undertake the inputting of information into the computerised evaluation database
To participate in team meetings to discuss programme progress and ensure that feedback is given to relevant bodies or groups.
To respect and adhere to the code of confidentiality.
To promote and support clients’ rights, by promoting individual choice and respecting their beliefs
