Herdsperson

Following our herdsman’s progression, we require an experienced and dedicated grazing specialist for a contract vacancy in North Dorset.  

The farm extends to 650 acres of which 175 provide the grazing platform, serviced by an excellent network of tracks, for the 300 Friesian and cross bred cows.  Milking is through a 20/40 Westphalia parlour with ACR’s and associated drafting and handling facilities. The herd calves in a tight block from the end of January with youngstock and dry cows outwintered and only being housed for a minimal time around calving.

Reporting directly to the farmer, you will milk the cows and manage the grazing on a day-to-day basis and experience with foot trimming is essential.  The herd is in excellent order yielding a commendable 5,000 litres on just a ¾ tonne of cake last year.

This role would either suit someone in a similar role or someone looking to progress their career.
