Job Description

HYG designs, engineers, manufactures, sells, and services a comprehensive line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts marketed globally under the Hyster and Yale brand names. We are one of the global leaders in the Material Handling industry and have been building relationships and partnering with our customers, suppliers, dealers, and employees for over 80 years.
We bring over 236 different products to the market, ranging from the smallest pallet truck to 48 tonne container handling trucks.
At Hyster-Yale we have extensive experience delivering Apprenticeship programmes. Successful applicants will ‘earn as they learn’ and benefit from a blend of on-the-job development, guided by a well-established team of Engineers, along with day release to attend Southern Regional College to complete a Higher-Level Apprenticeship in one of the following:
  • ENGINEERING (MECHATRONICS) LEVEL 5 FOUNDATION DEGREE
  • ENGINEERING (TECHNICAL DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE) LEVEL 5 FOUNDATION DEGREE
  • ENGINEERING BENG (HONS) LEVEL 6 DEGREE (‘TOP UP’ PROGRAMME) *
Higher-Level Apprenticeships are available in the following areas:
MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING
Successful candidates will undertake an HLA in Engineering (Mechatronics) Level 5 Foundation Degree.
We offer experience working with modern equipment across robotic welding, automated painting systems, laser cutting, multi axis machining centres, assembly automation, remotely guided vehicles, plc controllers and plant facilities, working in a team responsible for the following key accountabilities:
  • Performing general maintenance activities within all production areas including minor installations, assisting in fault finding on machinery/equipment, machine tools, paint systems and welding robots and contribute fully to the success of the team
  • Following a 2-shift work pattern.
MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING
Working alongside Manufacturing Engineers in the Manufacturing Department , the successful candidate will undertake an HLA in Engineering (Mechatronics or Technical Design and Manufacture) Level 5 Foundation Degree or Engineering BEng (Hons) Level 6 Degree (‘Top Up’ programme) , working in a team responsible for the following key accountabilities:
  • Planning and implementation of Manufacturing related projects within given timescales
  • Continuous improvement of Manufacturing (Welding) processes
  • Root cause analysis and implementing of Safety and Quality improvements
  • Provision of Engineering support to Production departments
  • Implementation of Engineering changes from Design into Production
  • Highlighting and implementation of health and safety, quality and productivity improvements
  • Inventory Integrity
  • Liaising cross-functionally within all departments in HYG.
  • Following a 2-shift work pattern.
PRODUCT DESIGN
The successful candidate will undertake an HLA in Engineering (Technical Design and Manufacture) Level 5 Foundation Degree, working in a team responsible for the following key accountabilities:
  • Concept and design of options based on product requirements
  • Develop design changes using 3D CAD and produce engineering drawings
  • Generating bills of materials for engineering release
  • Generating Aftermarket Parts Information to support maintenance of trucks
  • Review development logs and propose interim and permanent corrective actions
  • Investigating technical issues using the Global Problem-Solving process
  • Provide technical support to Internal Combustion and Electric Rider production departments
  • Testing of trucks and components including validating new product updates
  • Redesigning products to improve performance and value
  • Provide general support to the Design team.
SPECIAL PRODUCT ENGINEERING (SPED)
The successful candidate will undertake an HLA in Engineering (Mechatronics) Level 5 Foundation Degree working in a team responsible for the following key accountabilities:
  • Concept and design of options based on special quotations generated through dealer requests
  • Develop design changes using 3D CAD and produce engineering drawings
  • Generating bills of materials for engineering release
  • Generating Aftermarket Parts Information to support maintenance of trucks with special options
  • Review development logs and propose interim and permanent corrective actions
  • Provide technical support to production departments.
  • Development projects
  • Departmental improvements
  • Provide general support to the SPED Team.
APPLICANTS MUST:
  • Meet admissions criteria, apply for and successfully obtain a conditional offer (proceeding to a firm offer in due course) for the relevant Higher-Level Apprenticeship at Southern Regional College, starting September 2024
  • Possess a minimum grade C in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Hold GCE ‘A’ Levels (or equivalent) to include a STEM subject or a Level 3 vocational qualification in Engineering (by August 2024).
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in Engineering, use of initiative, team working and communication skills and enjoy a practical approach to learning and development.
    • Those applying for the Engineering BEng (Hons) Level 6 Degree (‘Top Up’ programme) must also have attained a Foundation Degree with a pass mark of 55% or above, or other relevant Level 5 qualification, in a relevant Engineering related discipline by August 2024.
