Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Norfolk Youth Justice Service are looking to recruit a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant in a newly developed education role within our service. This is an exciting opportunity to support children in Norfolk to obtain qualifications.

As the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, you will provide level one Maths and English tuition to our 16 plus youth justice cohort across the county.

Your role will involve engaging children who may have experienced trauma, previous school exclusions and rejection and may have an entrenched mistrust of adults. This countywide role and is part of the Education, Training and Employment team within our NYJS Partnership Strand.

You will have experience of working with children with a range of special educational needs including social, emotional, and mental health needs and, experience of supporting children or young people with reading and writing. You will be expected to provide clear, detailed assessments of sessions including child engagement and to progress information to the professional network. and ensure appropriate recording on the NYJS recording system.

You will be expected to work flexibly, with a clear expectation of evening and occasional Saturday working to meet the child’s needs. Travel to other work locations will be required both in and out of the county, which are not always on public transport routes.
