Job description

Marland Secondary School is a successful all age (KS1-4) special school for students with Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health (SEMH) needs. It is located across four sites; Peters Marland, Barnstaple, Central Bideford and East of the Water, Bideford. This post will be based at Marland Secondary School, Barnstaple.

The overall Marland group of schools are currently graded as 'Good' by Ofsted Education, with the residential care provision separately judged to be 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Social Care inspectorate. Our overarching ethos is based around personalisation and meeting the needs of each individual child. We utilise 'THRIVE' based social and emotional development at the core of everything we do.     

You will need to be an effective communicator who is skilled at building relationships and passionate about helping young people develop socially, academically and emotionally and to include:. 

  • Student interpersonal support skills across all ages.
  • Positive relationships with, the respect of, and the ability to motivate students.
  • Ability to think and present in a calm, positive, proactive, solution focussed manner at all times, even when under duress.
  • Passion for working with our highly challenging but rewarding SEMH Student cohort.
  • Ability to support high quality learning and/or deliver high quality learning intervention with our students.   

   
This role will form part of the extended leadership team at the school. 

Ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act. 

Training and ongoing professional development opportunities are offered to all staff, as are potential promotion opportunities due to the ongoing expansion of our popular schools.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and welcomed.

This role requires a DBS disclosure. This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
