Job Summary
To work under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team, as part of the Middle Leadership Team, at Cody Oaks, to support students and families to be successful. To provide support to students at risk of social and educational exclusion and their families, developing strong links between the school, families and other agencies, to improve educational opportunities and future life chances of students and to promote a positive attitude towards school. This includes supporting the senior team with the monitoring of attendance and offsite provision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Work with identified families, parents and carers through use of individual/group support strategies to improve outcomes for students and their families
Work with students and their families to increase their self-esteem, confidence, achievement and attendance at school
Assist families and parents to access external agencies where necessary, including supporting them to attend and access meetings as required
Under the direction of SLT, support with the transition of students into Cody Oaks including the setting up and running of a Summer Transition Programme
Take the lead as the “Key Worker” for certain students who are unable to access Education and the school environment
Work with parents to ensure their child fully benefits from the educational opportunities available and enable parents to fully support their children through school
Encourage parents to attend school events, reviews, parents evening and accompanying parents during school meetings
Support students to know and understand the triggers of their own anti-social behaviour, working with them to develop coping strategies to deal with emotions and behaviours
Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead as a Deputy DSL at Cody Oaks
Liaise and establish good working relationships with other professional agencies and support bodies, e.g. Education Welfare, Social Services, school medical staff, attending meetings and conferences as appropriate
Ensure relevant staff are up to date on issues which may affect a student’s learning in school, having regard to confidentiality and sensitivity of issues at all times
Undertake Safeguarding Visits to Offsite Provision as well as undertaking initial and review Quality Assurance Visits
Undertake home visits to students across the whole of Hampshire, and surrounding counties, to monitor students wellbeing and safeguarding
Other duties
The role will include home-visits to families of non-attendee students, the post holder must adhere to lone working policies and be willing to attend visits offsite
This role requires a high degree of integrity and a full understanding of the confidentiality of the issues with which the role holder will be dealing
A flexible and pragmatic approach to working hours is required
Attend, and provide reports to, any relevant Senior Leadership Meetings upon reasonable request
Attend Middle Leadership meetings
Keep all records in accordance with Data Protection Act
Keep comprehensive notes of family meetings/conversations, keeping accurate details of issues raised and any action taken
Write and contribute to regular reports to ensure that school are aware of all relevant issues concerning individual students
Developing a good network of contacts in agencies to provide the best access to support for the family
Have input on school policies and staff training days
Provide guidance, support and advice to neighbouring schools as required
