About this opportunity
We're looking for a strategic leader, to drive our sustainability agenda by developing propositions that enable us to be a leading provider of customer support on energy efficiency, sustainable homes!
Our Homes team focuses on lending to UK borrowers - enabling first time buyers to get on the ladder and those already on it to keep moving. As a key driver of the Group growth strategy, we're focussed on a multi-year transformation of consumer lending. Our ambition is to deepen relationships and help our customers at every stage of their home-buying journey.
You'll join us as a Senior Manager within the Homes Intermediary Acquisition & Sustainability team. This is a high-profile team, focussed on understanding the needs of customers and brokers to develop new ways to help customers buy and move home and act more sustainably. We deliver across multiple brands including Halifax, Lloyds, and Birmingham Midshires.
The effects of climate change are an increasing focus, including for our customers, investors, and regulators. UK homes account for c.20% of UK emissions and given our sizeable mortgage portfolio, alongside the Group's ambition to reduce emissions, we must lead the way in our innovative response. We need to continue designing and delivering new propositions that support our customers achieve their homes net zero potential, working with selected trusted partners to make this happen.
In this role, you'll lead an ambitious roadmap of sustainability activity across Homes. The fast-moving nature of the market will require you to quickly grasp the strategic levers at your disposal, generate new ideas and deliver on strategic commitments laid out in our transition plan.
You'll set the strategic direction as well as developing a detailed understanding for how these deliverables make a meaningful contribution towards our climate aspirations. You'll need to make challenging prioritisation calls, to successfully manage a programme of diverse activities; building business cases and sponsorship across LBG to unlock the value that can be created from innovative propositions to cross Group customers.
Collaborating closely with Group Sustainable Business, Credit Risk, Finance, Group Corporate Affairs, Marketing and Platform teams will help you manage and coordinate a wide range of sustainability related projects and priorities.
Key accountabilities will include:
  • Leading a high performing team of five direct reports, with a focus on coaching and developing each colleague to maximise their contribution and achieve their career goals.
  • Setting and delivering the long-term strategy for reducing our mortgage portfolio financed emissions.
  • Overseeing regular reporting and crafting the storyboard to share progress, internally to senior management and externally, via the annual Climate Report in our Annual Results.
  • Developing and launching new products and propositions that educate and encourage our customers to act more sustainably and support our emission reduction aspirations.
  • Leading the engagement with our external partners (Octopus, Effective Home and Energy Saving Trust) as we grow and nurture these relationships.
  • Considering the emerging priorities in sustainability such as mitigating our exposure to Physical Risk (e.g. Flooding) and our impact on Nature, building stretching long-term roadmaps.
  • Working collaboratively with teams across the Group, to support ambitions to improve the energy efficiency of all UK buildings ‘The Built Environment’, acting as the lead for residential homeowners and buy to let landlords.
  • Maintaining an overview of the external landscape, building a network of contacts to support LBG develop robust inputs into policy asks, industry consultations and new collaboration opportunities.

What you’ll need:
  • Strategy Development- Significant experience of setting short and long term strategy
  • Product Management- proven track record of successfully delivering end to end Consumer products and propositions to the external market
  • Leadership- people management experience which has included managing, developing, coaching and empowering others to deliver
  • Communication- adept at engaging and influencing stakeholders both internally and externally, including presenting concise storyboards to senior audiences
  • Programme management- accustomed to using project planning techniques to manage multiple deliveries within a complex portfolio of initiatives
  • Analysis- Comfortable using a range of analytical tools to report insights, form recommendations and build business cases,
  • Relationships & Market- experience in building external and internal networks, to grow own strategic insight and external market connections

And any experience of these would be really useful:
  • Financial Services background, although other customer-centric industries such as telecoms, transport and energy would also be valuable
  • Sustainability expertise would be a distinct advantage
