Accommodation available on the Skibo estate

The Equestrian Centre at Skibo Castle

  • Set within the historic Home Farm's complex on the Skibo Estate, The Carnegie Club's Equestrian Centre provides members and their guests with a wide range of unforgettable riding experiences.
  • Every day is different for members of our Equestrian team, who split their time between caring for our horses and ponies, leading treks across various locations and coaching members and guests through beginner and advanced riding lessons.
  • With 12 horses and ponies to look after, the team are kept busy throughout the year with general stable management duties and equine care, as well as the careful upkeep and presentation of the reception, stables, and yard itself.
  • From scenic trekking across our 8,000-acre estate to focused, one-to-one coaching in the outdoor school, cross country lessons and showjumping, our Equestrian Team ensure that riders of all ages and abilities enjoy the magical moments that make a stay at Skibo so special.

About the role

  • You'll work alongside the rest of our Equestrian team to ensure the smooth day to day running of the centre, occasionally taking charge of operations in the event of their absence.
  • Coaching and leading is a huge part of this role, and you’ll put together personalised lesson plans, provide individual and group instruction, and lead treks around the estate. You’re committed to making every rider's time spent with us as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible.
  • Working with your colleagues, you'll create a warm, welcoming and enthusiastic atmosphere, ensuring all riders - regardless of their skill or experience - have a great time riding with you!
  • From grooming and tack maintenance to worming, mucking out, painting jumps and polishing boots, you and the team will work in all areas of general stable management to ensure a professionally presented, efficiently run yard at all times.
  • You'll help to exercise, school, jump, and compete the Skibo horses to ensure they are fit, healthy and happy.
  • The health and safety of both your charges and their horses is paramount, and will be your number one priority at all times.
  • You'll help with farrier visits, vet call-outs and other welfare-related professionals, ensuring all details are recorded correctly.
  • You’ll collaborate seamlessly with colleagues across the Club’s various departments to ensure our members enjoy the very best experience – that can mean everything from communicating their needs to our Membership team to reporting faults to our Maintenance department.

Who we are looking for

  • You're an experienced equestrian professional with an enthusiastic and committed approach, and ideally you have a background in a similar role.
  • Your passion for working with horses is infectious, and your positive attitude appreciated by every member and guest who visits the Equestrian Centre.
  • You are qualified to at least one of the following standards: BET Assistant Ride Leader, BHS Stage 2, Pony Club B test, or NC in Horse Management.
  • First Aid, child protection, and riding and road safety test qualifications are desirable.
  • You're friendly, outgoing, and find joy in creating memorable and magical moments for each and every rider!
  • Your confidence and reliability are clear in your work ethic, and you can be trusted to take initiative when needed.
  • You're a great communicator and take pleasure in working as part of a team.
  • You have the flexibility to work weekends.
