Job description

Uppingham School is looking for a dynamic Housemaster/Housemistress (HsM) to help shape the quality of our boarding experience.

Based in the West Deyne boarding house - a beautiful 19th century townhouse, you will facilitate an excellent boarding house provision, ensuring that each boarder is given a sense of community, inclusion and above all safety and security.

The HsM is the principal adult in the life of a boarder. Therefore, you will act as a visible role-model for our pupils, exemplifying only the very highest standards of personal behaviour, whilst ensuring the same from each member of your team. You will engage with pupils during mealtimes, at the evening house call over, and informally by simply being in the same building.

The HsM lives in the private side of the house, which provides family sized accommodation. Assistance with reasonable removal expenses is provided.

You will be a strong and dynamic character, who possesses the flexibility to balance house needs with the demands of wider school activities. Prior pastoral experience in a boarding setting, as well as previous experience of boarding house management (for example as a Deputy/Assistant HsM) is essential. You will possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to build a strong rapport with pupils and to motivate, engage and support your boarding house team.

This is a demanding yet rewarding role, that offers a chance to make a lasting and meaningful impact on students, ensuring a rich and stimulating boarding experience.
