Blaby District Council is a respected local government organisation dedicated to serving our community and driving positive change. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Housing Services Team as a Housing Accommodation and Enabling Officer
Our Housing Services Team forms part of the Housing, Environmental Protection and Community Services Department. The Housing Services team encompasses the functions of Housing Options and Housing Strategy and has responsibility for Homeless Prevention. The allocation of existing affordable housing and the development of new affordable housing.
This role is varied and focuses on several functions within the department. These include:
• Assisting the Housing Strategy Team Leader in ensuring new affordable housing is delivered through the planning process.
• Analysing and producing documentary evidence from several sources to support the provision of new affordable housing.
• Contributing to the development of Strategic Policies underpinning the work we do to prevent and relieve homelessness across the district.
• Overseeing the management of our temporary accommodation properties.
We are looking for an individual who is a strategic thinker, who can provide advice and support to the housing services team and other associated departments. Reporting to the Housing Strategy Team Leader, you will be part of a small team and be able to work effectively with stakeholders. The role will be varied and will require the individual to be responsible for dealing with general telephone enquires through to assisting with the preparation of reports to Cabinet or Council.
You will ideally have previous experience working within the housing sector and have good knowledge of existing housing legislation encompassing both planning and homelessness. Experience of managing properties either in the private or social housing sector and working in the public sector would be advantageous although not essential.
This is an important role as it will help to inform future decisions around housing provision in the Blaby District.
This role will require a basic Disclosure and Barring Service check (known as a DBS check). All offers of employment will be made conditional upon receipt of the satisfactory DBS check.
