The ideal candidate will also need to be able to drive real and effective change in service improvement and effect culture change through the Council's Values & Behaviours.
Daily duties:
- Direct the Council's statutory homelessness and housing advice duties ensuring that current legislation and Council policy are adhered to at all times and the service is accessible to all communities
- Lead on the development, delivery and review of the Council's private sector housing strategy and housing grants, empty homes, tenancy relations and enforcement policies
- Provide as the Council's lead professional, expert advice to senior managers and Members on homelessness, private sector housing and related matters
- Responsible for the management, training and development of staff within the section, embracing appropriate performance management techniques
- Proactively seek opportunities to secure external funding through Government grant and other sources to develop and implement initiatives to reduce homelessness applications
- Ensure enquiries and formal complaints in relation to the service are promptly and fully investigated and responded to and any necessary changes to policy, practice or procedure arising
- Develop an annual work plan for the section and to be responsible for its delivery, the achievement of performance targets and the management and mitigation of associated risks
