Job description

We are looking for self-motivated, confident and enthusiastic individuals who are experienced with the Homelessness Reduction Act legislation and the homelessness agenda more widely.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful, results driven team to ensure that the Council meets its statutory duties towards homeless applicants and homelessness prevention.

You will make decisions on homelessness and housing need in accordance with relevant legislation, and policies and procedures operating within the department.

You will be the main point of contact for homelessness applicants and will manage a caseload, actively working towards preventing and relieving homelessness and offering housing advice to customers requesting assistance.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a similar role, have a working knowledge of housing, homelessness and related legislation e.g. Housing Act 1996, as amended, and an understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018.

Training will be provided where appropriate. Good written and oral communication and negotiation skills are needed together with being proficient in IT systems including Microsoft packages.

The successful candidates should have previous practical experience of working in a busy housing or welfare benefits related organisation, or environments with experience of interviewing clients, debt management, problem solving and financial inclusion issues.

A full current driving license and access to a vehicle is an essential requirement.

Working in local government is a highly satisfying and rewarding experience in so many ways. In return for the contribution you’ll make to our local community, you’ll enjoy an excellent range of benefits including learning and development opportunities.

These posts are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at an Enhanced level.
