Housing Solicitor

A well-established South Manchester firm with a strong reputation in legal aid work is seeking a solicitor to join their busy legal aid housing team. The firm specializes in housing cases, focusing on areas such as possession, anti-social behavior orders, eviction, and homelessness, with a commitment to not representing landlords. They actively participate in court duty possession schemes at four local courts.
The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications and characteristics:

• Minimum of two years' experience in providing advice and advocacy in housing matters.
• Good understanding of legal aid requirements.
• Possession of a valid practicing certificate.
• Prior experience handling a busy caseload, including urgent proceedings.
• Keenness to develop advocacy skills, as the firm rarely instructs counsel.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and cover work on colleagues' cases.
• Excellent IT skills.
• Willingness to work in the office most days and cover court hearings at short notice.
• Effective communication skills, especially when dealing with clients with mental health conditions.
• Passion for justice.

The Role:

The selected candidate will take on the following responsibilities:

• Handling a significant caseload of legal aid housing cases.
• Providing advocacy when necessary, including covering cases for colleagues.
• Ensuring compliance with legal aid requirements.
• Attending court duty possession sessions.
• Adhering to the firm's file management and time costing procedures.
