Job description

Part Time Housing Support Worker – 16 hours per week on a rota covering weekday evenings and weekends.

Here at North Wales Housing, we make a difference to people’s lives every day. If you’re committed to helping us achieve this, we’ll make sure we make a positive difference to your life too. Let’s work together to build on 50 years of providing quality homes across North Wales, investing into communities and supporting those facing homelessness.

As a Gold Standard Investors in People employer, we’re committed to providing an environment where our people can thrive and be proud of where they work, in a culture enabling them to fulfil their potential and feel valued for their contribution. In 2021 and in 2023, we have been listed as ‘outstanding to work for’ by the Best Companies accreditation.

Our Pendinas Hostel in Bangor provides temporary supported housing accommodation to vulnerable people, creating support plans based on individual needs whilst helping them to find somewhere more permanent to live.

The Package

  • Permanent contract
  • Salary of £22,335 pro rata
  • Minimum of 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Benefits platform with savings on groceries, high-street shopping, new tech, holidays etc.
  • Further studies support and career development opportunities
  • Annual Leave and Cycle to work purchase scheme
  • Employee health assistance scheme
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Generous contributory pension scheme

The Role – Housing Support Worker

Working at Pendinas Hostel in Bangor, you’ll support people with their housing needs and life skills in a person-centred, trauma informed way and contribute to the safe running of the hostel. This will involve:

  • Supporting service users with mental health and wellbeing, by encouraging healthy activities and lifestyles, and signposting to services
  • Assisting with claims for housing and associated benefits to support residents’ financial stability
  • Organising and managing a range of engaging activities to promote social inclusion
  • Playing a hands-on role in responding to incidents, completing room checks and ensuring properties are maintained
  • Maintaining accurate service user records and files
  • Performing regular security and fire safety checks
  • In the absence of the Housing Support Officer (Pendinas), during out of hours, deputising the support of care leavers in 277 projects

You’ll be working 16 hours per week on a 6 week rota, to include evenings and weekends. Shifts are as follows:

  • Week 1 – Monday-Friday – 17:30-21:30
  • Week 2 – Saturday-Sunday – 13:00-21:00
  • Week 3 – Saturday-Sunday – 08:00-16:00
  • Week 4 – Monday-Friday – 17:30-21:30
  • Week 5 – Saturday-Sunday – 13:00-21:00
  • Week 6 – Saturday-Sunday – 08:00-16:00

Our Requirements – Housing Support Worker

  • Either have the ability to hold at least basic conversations in Welsh (although you may struggle to keep up fully) or be currently learning / willing to learn Welsh
  • Experience working in a client centred environment such as housing, care or similar (e.g., supporting individuals in reporting maintenance issues, making healthcare appointments, pursuing hobbies, securing training and employment, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the support needs of vulnerable people
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Hard working, with a positive ‘can do attitude’
  • At least have basic IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Although not essential, an awareness of issues and support needs connected to homelessness would be highly advantageous. As would an awareness of specialist agencies, including drug, alcohol and mental health services.

At North Wales Housing we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of service users. You must be willing for an enhanced DBS disclosure to be undertaken by our organisation.

North Wales Housing is an equal opportunities organisation who particularly welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds. All Black, Asian and ethnic minority candidates, as well as disabled applicants who meet our essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview.

Shortlisting of applications and interviews for this role will take place while the advert is live; the advert will close once the successful candidate is found. Candidates are therefore encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.
