Human Resources Manager

Contract Type: Full-time

Hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week

Salary: £48,979 - £50,041 per annum, including London Weighting

We have invested in our HR Team at Newham Sixth Form College where we have recently improved our HRIS and structure that will build a strong growth of proactive HR applications to help drive the College’s strategic objectives.

We are now seeking to appoint an HR Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to manage a productive, committed team providing an effective, professional, advisory and administrative service in a busy College environment.

The HR Manager will work closely with the Executive Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, operational managers and the senior leadership team.

The HR Manager will provide advice and guidance on staffing matters, strategy driven activities and in planning and implementing policies and processes that contribute to the development of the department and its employees. The HR Manager will play an important role in shaping the operations of the department.

The HR Manager should have a demonstrable understanding of the importance of effective HR management in an academic environment, and have outstanding organisational skills, a collaborative approach to work, and excellent communication skills. The HR Manager will be expected to acquire a thorough understanding of the College’s procedures to deliver creative solutions, and to foster constructive working relationships across the department and with the wider College.

The successful candidate will be qualified to CIPD graduate level or above or have equivalent experience. They will have demonstrable sound judgement in HR matters with detailed knowledge and experience of the application of UK employment law and on boarding regulations with an ability to evaluate risk. They will also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and constructive working relationships at all levels, and to influence decisions, including at middle management level.

This is a permanent, full-time position. It is important for us as a team to promote a healthy work-life balance and actively promote a family friendly working environment, including generous provision of family leave (i.e. maternity, paternity, parental, and adoption leave).

There’s lots to do and several exciting people-related projects to get involved with as we are in the process of building e-recruitment. You’ll join our fast-paced and supportive team, we’re always on the go, and we thrive on openness, honesty, laughter, and fun.

The College combines great facilities with quality teaching and high standards, including a multi-million pound building, providing state of the art technology enabled learning resource centre, drama studio and café.

We will offer you a warm welcome to our College- a place where all ambitions are celebrated. As one of the largest sixth form colleges in London, we are a non-selective, diverse and secular college, proud to have launched over 50,000 young people onto university, training and employment since we were founded in 1992.

The College is currently graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, and ‘Outstanding’ for our provision of personal development, behaviour and welfare. We are very proud to be a three-time silver award winner at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, where in 2020, we made history by becoming the first ever provider to win two awards in a single year.

We believe that everybody has the power to make a positive impact on society - small changes that add up to make the world a better place.

Our motto is: Diverse in Ambition, United in Success

What’s in it for you?

We offer the opportunity to help develop your skills and knowledge in a friendly team environment, plus a range of benefits including a career average pension scheme (LGPS), employee assistance programme, onsite parking, cycle to work, onsite canteen, TECH Scheme, Eye Care support and full access to the onsite gym.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We are committed to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce that better reflects the wider community we support. We particularly welcome applicants from groups currently under-represented in senior roles, including females, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), people with disabilities and from the LGBTQ community.

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of our students and expect everybody working for the College to share this commitment. We actively seek DBS clearance checks for applications of employment as part of our safeguarding procedures.
