Permanent - Full Time
Location: This role offers the ability to work at various offices within the Anglian Water region, with at least 1 day a week in our offices in Cambridge.

An exciting opportunity to join our Water Resources Team as a Hydrologist.

What will you be doing?

This is a technical role supporting the Water Resources Team to ensure the security of supply of upstream resources, both in terms of quantity and quality. This role will report on the Water Resources situation across the Anglian Region and form a key role in both tactical and strategic drought response. The role will involve working with a number of key internal and external stakeholders, supporting the Senior Hydrologist with external liaison meetings and helping to drive optimal tactical and strategic decision making.

The successful applicant will:

  • Support the team with the hydrological analysis of large and varied volumes of data, to help manage both groundwater and surface water resources, ensuring the continuity of supply to customers. The role will also play a key part in ensuring we comply with key regulatory requirements and will support our responsibility to protect the environment in our region.

  • Be required to maintain and update existing reports, whilst looking for opportunities to enhance and automate our methodologies. This will improve the visibility of our data sets to the business and readiness for future data requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysis and presentation of hydrological and climatic data (incl. rainfall, soil moisture deficit, river flows and groundwater levels).

  • Support in the production of the monthly Water resources situation report for the business (incl. reporting on groundwater levels and reservoir refill statistics).

  • Running hydrological, hydrogeological and reservoir models to predict the operational impact of potential drought conditions.

  • Drive continuous improvements to situation reporting through digital transformation, external benchmarking and learning from the wider industry.

  • Enhanced monitoring of the water resources situation under drought conditions, as /when applicable.

  • Support in production of hydrological impact assessments to support abstraction licence conditions.

  • Support in the production of key hydrological information required within the statutory Drought Plan and ensure new requirements are embedded in BAU operations.

  • Lead on data collation relating to the business' drought workstream leads and support the co-ordination of multiple stakeholders including action and performance tracking.

What do you need?

Experience in:

  • Data management and analysis?

  • Hydrological modelling (previous experience beneficial)

  • Ability and experience of interrogating multiple data sets

  • Good working knowledge of GIS Systems e.g. ArcMap

  • Good working knowledge of Power BI and Python (beneficial but not essential)

  • Project coordination (beneficial but not essential)

  • Working with leaders across multiple business streams?(beneficial but not essential)

  • Effectively managing internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to prepare high quality written technical reports

  • Preparing and delivering presentations to internal stakeholders
