Overview of the role

The role of the ICT Physical Infrastructure Consultant (Data Centre Specialist) is to primarily focus on our client’s ICT Infrastructure fit-out projects. The specific infrastructure requirement nuances for a Data Centre demand a thorough understanding of general standards and their application within the Data Centre environment. Leading client engagements and an in-depth understanding of how projects are run within the RIBA project framework are essential. This role would be a great opportunity to someone who has a wide variety technical and communications skills, has worked on a variety of Data Centre build and fit out projects in the past, is familiar with Data Centre terminology and can identify and overcome issues in a clear, concise and logical manner.

Reporting into the Project Director, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining the high standards expected by Blacktip Consultancy and the team, ensuring technical compliance throughout.

Additionally, alongside the Project Director, the ICT Physical Infrastructure Consultant will help develop client relationships by providing technical input and will assist in creating future opportunities, reflecting the strategic goals of Blacktip Consultancy:

  • Securing and developing long term customer relationships
  • Maximising repeat business
  • Identifying New opportunities within existing client base

Role and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Development of designs, reports, specifications, budgets, and equipment schedules in line with RIBA and/or client project stages.
  • Ownership of the design throughout the project.
  • Ensuring applicable industry, technical, regional, regulatory and client standards are applied to designs.
  • Preparation of design documentation and technical specifications aligned with industry standards and client blueprints.
  • Working with our Production Department to review Revit models/sheets and in the preparation of models, technical drawings, schematics, and design details.
  • Attending/chairing technical and coordination workshops attended by multiple project disciplines, including; Architects, Civils, MEP, ICT, Security.
  • Coordination and interfacing with other Blacktip technology specialists.
  • Commissioning management, witness testing, snagging and reporting.
  • Working remotely from the UK on projects throughout EMEA.
  • Travelling to site to conduct inspections and meetings throughout EMEA.
  • Interfacing with multiple client, partner and project teams throughout EMEA.
  • Undertaking formal presentations – at presales stage in the form of formal tender interviews with design team members and clients.

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Detailed and up to date knowledge of Low Voltage Systems, associated standards, and support systems such as Copper and fibre cable media, 10GB/40GB/100GB connectivity, Cable testing, IT equipment room design, Containment, EMT, ducting and cabinetry and Telecoms provider services
  • An understanding of the following technologies, in particular their interface points with Low Voltage Systems design:
  • Local and Wide Area Networks
  • Wireless Network
  • Audio Visual systems
  • Physical Security systems (ACS, VSS, PIDS)
  • EMS & PMS systems
  • Extensive knowledge and experience coordinating Low Voltage systems design with MEP, Architectural and other technology disciplines at all stages of the RIBA (or international equivalent) design process.
  • 5+ years’ experience within a similar role.
  • Industry related design qualifications e.g. BICSI RCDD.
  • Experience in having direct responsibility for producing coordinated Low Voltage design stage issue, procurement stage issue and construction issue design drawings, documentation, and documentation (AutoCAD & Revit work predominantly undertaken by production team under your instruction).
  • AutoCAD Skills would be an advantage but not essential.
  • The ability to plan and execute complex, multi-discipline, time bound and phased projects.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting floor plans, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterFormat Division specifications.
  • Understanding of the terminology and requirements of IT spaces within Data Centres, e.g., OSP, POE, SSNR, SSFR, etc.
  • Experience in project completion and handover of infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
  • The ability to work as part of and/or leading a team.
  • High level of IT literacy - Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat essential.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Ability to manage own time and to work under pressure.
  • Diligent approach to quality management.
  • Experience working on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Production of specifications, e.g., functional, performance, tender.
  • A consistently proactive approach to both internal and external interactions.
  • Ability to proactively manage priorities based information availability, deadlines and other external factors.
  • An approach to work that considers how prioritising tasks can impact or enable others.
  • Proactively sharing information within a team.
  • Desire to work in extremely collaborative and team based environment.
  • Experience working with and collaborating using online project and resource management tools.
  • Rigorous attention to detail, both within your own work and when conducting peer reviews.
  • Site survey and inspection experience.
  • Ability to mark-up drawings for production by remote CAD technician.
  • Experience of attending and presenting at client or project interviews.
  • Understanding of design and construction process.
  • Experience working on High volume and high speed projects.
