Salary: £33,966 to £36,024 with progression to £44,263 per annum

The Role
 

The Impact Funding Manager is an opportunity to play a critical role in supporting researchers to enhance the impact of their research findings and expertise through the provision of managed funds that helps to develop new and existing relationships with businesses and accelerate the development and uptake of research findings. The role contributes to both University and Faculty strategies for the delivery of knowledge exchange activities with the overall aim of developing and generating new impact opportunities.

 

You will be responsible for the success and management of funds including the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) and Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF). You will be part of the Enterprise Services that supports researchers with the commercialisation and translation of research and work closely with the Faculty of Science and Engineering, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Services, with additional reporting to the Dean of Research of the Faculty.   

 

We are seeking to appoint a highly committed, self-motivated and organised individual who will demonstrate an ability to work pro-actively with a broad range of colleagues and a portfolio of external stakeholders. Previous experience of working in research environments and a track record of leading projects is essential. Applicants should be educated to degree-level, with relevant project management experience and sound financial management and reporting skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Project management of all aspects of the funding programmes in collaboration with academic and professional services colleagues and relevant external partners
  • Lead on internal funding calls and allocation of funds including all appropriate communications, governance, receipt of applications, scoring, communicating outcomes and monitoring expenditure and progress
  • Provide advice and assistance as necessary to academic researchers with their funding applications
  • Lead on marketing activity including the development of materials, presentations, web pages, social media and promotional case studies that showcase activities
  • Lead on reporting to funders against KPIs and progress. This includes completing all necessary reports requested and presenting to relevant committees
  • Work with senior colleagues to prepare and write business cases for future EPSRC IAA and other funding opportunities
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the EPSRC including attendance at national IAA events or conferences
  • Develop and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders engaged with funding

 

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of practices in relation to research management, innovation and partnership development
  • Experience of managing projects to successful completion
  • Analytical skills to manage project budgets, manage and control risk, draw conclusions and make recommendations to the project team
  • Experience of project reporting and business case development
  • Project management experience in a Higher Education and/or R&D environment
  • Experience of partnership working across a range of roles and managing conflicting priorities
  • Experience of working with senior, key decision makers

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in a science or engineering discipline (or can show equivalent experience)

Desirable

  • Project Management Qualification (PMP, APM, PRINCE2 etc)
