NHS Resolution is seeking to make a key appointment to our Reserving and Pricing Committee (RPC) to sit alongside existing members who comprise members of the executive committee, and a non-executive director.
NHS Resolution’s Reserving and Pricing Committee (RPC) supports the Chief Executive in their role of Accounting Oicer in setting the key assumptions that determine the valuation of NHS Resolution’s provision for liabilities arising from claims in respect of its indemnity schemes. The Committee also determines the forecasts for the cash required to settle claims for future financial years in order to agree appropriate levels of funding for NHS Resolution’s indemnity schemes with the DHSC. These activities are heavily informed by actuarial advisers, as well as NHS Resolution’s experience of the claims environment.
Skills/experience required
The preferred candidate will have the following attributes:
- a qualified actuary, or other relevant insurance or financial expertise with experience ideally gained in a large complex organisation in the public, private or voluntary sector in a similar governance and accountability context;
- an ability to analyse complex and sometimes conflicting data, including financial data, and to draw balanced conclusions from information presented;
- ability to challenge eectively but constructively; and
- first class team-working skills and the willingness to work in a corporate manner to achieve NHS Resolution’s objectives
The successful candidate will also be expected to possess or develop an understanding of:
- the drivers of the costs of indemnity claims and actuarial techniques to estimate financial valuations and forecasts;
- accountability and financial management within NHS Resolution;
- NHS Resolution’s objectives and strategic priorities;
- NHS Resolution’s structure and relationships with its key stakeholders. Please note that previous NHS experience is not required for this role.
